April 26 1986 1:24am - Operators in the control room of reactor number four at the chernobyl nuclear power plant carrying out tests on the reactor broke many safety rules and ignored protocol, the result was the worst nuclear accident the world has ever witnessed. over the coming months over 350,000 people were moved from their homes and a 2600 square kilometre 'exclusion zone' put in place. The area will remain uninhabitable for thousands of years.
The exclusion zone is an area of silent beauty where nature is slowly overcoming man's poisoning and reclaiming what was once it's own however it is also an almost eternal reminder of our ability to destroy the planet with our endeavours which, unless carefully considered and examined, will ultimately realise an end to all life on earth.
